By MUPress Staff Date: September 17, 2021

Congratulations to Ursula Kelly and Andrea Procter! The Foresters' Scribe and A Long Journey have made it on the shortlist for the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Award for Non-Fiction! The Foresters’ Scribe is a poignant and comprehensive study of the Newfoundland Forestry Companies of the First World War, while A Long Journey examines the previously untold history of residential schools in Labrador and Newfoundland. They are joined on the shortlist by Gemma Hickey with their work Almost Feral, a book about Hickey’s journey walking across the island of Newfoundland to raise awareness for survivors of religious institutional abuse. Congratulations once again to all shortlisted authors!

Every year The Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador holds the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards to recognize excellence in writing by Newfoundland and Labrador authors.
